Kiprotich to miss commonwealth games again

Star athlete Stephen Kiprotich has indicated he will not take part in this year's Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. The Games that bring together Commonwealth member countries will take place April 4-15 in the Gold Coast City, Australia.

Kiprotich also skipped the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

" Kiprotich told us that he will concentrate on the 2018 Hamburg Marathon and miss the Commonwealth Games," Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) administrator , Timothy Masaba told us.

Kiprotich who won gold at the 2012 London Olympics is reportedly preparing for the Hamburg Marathon to try and better his second position achieved last year.

Masaba also pointed out that Solomon Munyo Mutai who came 4th at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland is nursing an injury and will also miss the Games.

Dominic Otuchet, President of the Federation said that minus the two athletes, he still expects the team to perform well and win some medals.

"We now have a winning habit and whoever qualifies to make the team is capable of winning a medal," said Otuchet.

In the absence of Kiprotich and Mutai and Moses Kipsiro who also asked not to be considered for the games, the likes of Jackson Kiprop, Robert Chemonges and Alex Chesakit will have a chance to prove a point.
