NRM has betrayed Ugandans says former historical member

Tom Mboijana, a former historical member of the National Resistance Army-NRA External Wing says that the National Resistance Movement-NRM government has betrayed Ugandans and rendered its existence irrelevant.

Mboijana together with his brother the late Chris Mboijana offered financial support to Museveni and other members from Nairobi, where they were based in 1981.

It was at Chris's house, where Museveni and former Ugandan President Yusuf Lule met to draft the agreement that saw Lule's Uganda Freedom Fighters (UFF), and Museveni's Popular Resistance Army (PRA), merge to form the National Resistance Movement (NRM) with Prof Lule as its chairman.

But today, as NRM members converge in Arua district to celebrate 32 years since the assumption of power, Mboijana says the NRM has failed to achieve the objectives for its establishment. He cites insecurity, corruption and the lack of separation of power.

Mboijana explained that he was forced to quit the NRM party due to governance issues and lack of democracy. He joined the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party in 2000 and is now charge of mobilisation in the Tooro region.

According to Mboijana, it's useless to celebrate the NRM day when the citizens are struggling to access health services, struggling with poverty and the yearning for the rule of law.

Mboijana observed a need for dialogue to discuss governance and constitutional challenges that will culminate in the formation of a government of national unity.

Mboijana also accuses the NRM of betraying the people of Tooro. He explained that the region deserved better because of the services they rendered during the 1986 war.

Mboijana questioned why in some areas of the opposition there are better services than in areas which overwhelmingly vote President Museveni and the NRM.
