Ugandan actor gets Oscars' nod

British born Uganda actor Daniel Kaluuya could become the first person with Ugandan origin to walk away with an Oscars award.

This comes after he was nominated Best Actor in the Oscars for his role in the famous Get Out film, a horror satire.

Kaluuya however faces stiff competition from other nominees in the same category including; Timothee Chalamet, Daniel Day-Lewis, Gary Oldman and Denzel Washington.

It all goes down to winning for the 28 year-old Briton born to Ugandan immigrants, Get Out has also been nominated in the; Best Picture category while its director Jordan Peele is nominated for best director.

Social media is already a wash with messages congratulating Kaluuya. Mr Peele could not hide his excitement as he revealed that he cried on phone when he called Kaluuyta to congratulate him on the nomination.

“I just spoke to Daniel. You know when you’re on the phone trying to disguise the sound of an ugly cry? I failed at that,” Peele said.

“Right now I’m just thinking about everyone who bought a ticket and told someone else to. You did this. Thank you,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jordan Peele becomes the first African-American ever nominated for directing, writing, and producing in the same year. And Christopher Plummer, at 88, is the oldest Best Supporting Actor nominee in history.

Monkeypaw productions, the company behind “Get Out’ also congratulated Kaluuya upon the nominations.

Daniel Kaluuya, born 24 February 1989 to Ugandan Immigrants, is an English actor and writer. He achieved international recognition for his performance in the 2017 horror film Get Out. He lives in West London with his girlfriend, Amandla.
