Riders start gathering evidence against Kitatta's boda boda 2010

Days after he was arrested together with a group of his members, boda boda 2010 chairman Abdallah Kitatta could be in more trouble as riders in Kampala have started gathering evidence pinning him and his clique.

Over the weekend, the army arrested a number of boda boda 2010 members including Kitatta on allegations of participation in the murder of Francis Ekalungar, the Case hospital accountant whose body was found burnt after he had gone missing on his way to the bank.

John Ssemujju many of their members have fallen prey to the wrath of Kitatta’s Boda Boda 2010 and its high time they assisted investigators in gathering evidence against the group.

"We have reported over 600 cases against the group and its leaders but have not got assistance from police, its high time we give this evidence to the investigators since our tormentors have been arrested,"Ssemujju said on Tuesday.

Century boda boda riders' association chairman Siraje Mutyaba said they have put up what they termed as a black book in which victims of the wrath of boda boda 2010 would record the evidence so they can be brought to book.

“They should pay for their deeds,The long arm of the law should take its course,"Mutyaba said.

One by one, riders stood up giving testimonies of the violence meted out against them by their rivals from the boda boda 2010 group.

The riders say they are to put up record books for fellow riders and passengers to give evidence against their tormentors as their block on ensuring the violators of peace are brought to book.

"We shall give the evidence to the very security organs that did the good job of arresting perpetrators of violence in the boda boda industry. "

They pointed out some of the registration number plates and motorcycles recovered from the offices of boda boda 2010 around the city as belonging to some of their members who were either killed or beaten badly before they were taken forcefully.

Uganda Human Rights Commission's Meddie Mulumba said the move by the riders to document evidence against Boda boda 2010 will help prosecute them.

"If they keep quiet, no one will consider their allegations against boda boda 2010,"Mulumba said.

He however said he was happy that another security organ had come up to deal with boda boda 2010 following the refusal by police to rectify the problem,despite earlier warnings.

"It is high time all options be considered. Be it sacking of Gen.Kale Kayihura."

In a statement on Sunday, the deputy UPDF spokesperson Lt.Col.Deo Akiiki said that following the disappearance of Ekalungar in  2nd Jan 2018 and the body later discovered in Kajansi, the army have since been working together to bring the suspects to book until Friday when they mounted an operation that yielded results.

“Acting on very reliable information, on Friday, an operation was conducted to arrest one of the suspects Huzairu Kiwalabye,”Lt.Col.Akiiki said.

He said that after interrogating Kiwalabye , investigations led them to the arrest of his brother Abdul Kitatta, the chairman of Boda Boda 2010 a notorious gang of motorcycle riders known for terrorising fellow riders.

He said more detailed investigations will be conducted in a bid to arrest all those still at large with a view of prosecuting them.
