Bail ruling for trio accused of stealing fibre cables set for next week

A ruling on whether to grant bail to a trio accused of vandalising, theft and conspiracy to commit felony by cutting fibre cables worth 200 million shillings belonging to Soliton Telmec, will be given next week.

The trio that includes; Maganda Allan, Kanyesigye Dampia and Muwonge Jonathan, was arraigned before Buganda Road Magistrate James Eremye Mawanda on Thursday.

Prosecution alleges that the trio damaged communication installation belonging to Soliton Telmec that include Internet Fibre Cables. They however denied all charges.

Maganda Allan through his lawyer, Fredrick Mpanga, argued he has a young family and it is now three weeks since he was arrested and he is the sole bread winner, hence be granted bail to vend for his family.

However, state prosecutor Esther Nayebare prayed that court denies the trio bail since the crime they committed involves large sums of money and the evidence so far gathered all pins them and if given bail they may decided not to turn up in court.

She also said that if court accepts to give them bail they deposit a reasonable amount of money they will compel them to report to court.

The magistrate has set 24th January to make a ruling on their bail application.
