A DNA test by police at the Government Analytical Laboratory in Wandegeya has confirmed that the body recovered at Kajjansi on Thursday morning is that of Francis Ekalungar a former accountant at Case Hospital along Buganda Road.

On Wednesday, the management of Case Hospital in Nakasero reported to police that Ekalungar, 49 had disappeared on his way to the bank. He was supposed to bank Shs 15 million.

Police would later recover a burnt body at Kajjansi.

At first the family said the body did not belong to Ekalungar while Case Hospital staff were positive the body belonged to their former colleague.

Because of this confusion, police subjected the body to a DNA test to put the matter to rest.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the acting Kampala Metropolitan Area Police spokesperson  told Nile Post that the results have proved that the body is of that Ekalungar.

“Samples were submitted to the Government Analytical Laboratory yesterday and the DNA report has confirmed the burnt body belongs to the deceased,” Owoyesigyire said.

He added that there had been two files created for investigation of the matter  one at Wandegeya where Case hospital reported the missing person and another at Kajjansi where the body was recovered.

One of the files, he said, will be closed.

“We shall give the body to the deceased’s relatives and the police at Kajjansi will continue with investigations into the circumstances under which he was murdered."

It is believed that the 49 year-old accountant was first kidnapped by unknown assailants, who took the money before they killed him and burnt his body.
