Jean Senninde: Uganda’s female footballer playing for Crystal Palace

The beautiful game of football can be too addictive at times. For She cranes and Crystal Palace defender Jean Senninde, her love for the sport grows stronger with time like wine.

She is arguably the most established female footballer in Uganda and fast becoming the poster girl of the beautiful game in the pearl of Africa.

Jean takes part in drills during training.

At a young age the now Crystal Palace defender, Senninde broke into dreamland having short stints at top English clubs like Charlton Athletic, Pheonix Ladies and Queens Park Rangers before crossing to the Selhurst Park earlier this year. The well-built defender shares her experience with Nile post playing at that level.

“For me playing at Crystal Palace has showed me a different side to the game and more technical and other aspects I didn’t know when I was younger. So it’s a great opportunity for me to learn and improve ma self as a player.”

Match day

Even with her rich resume at a young age, Sseninde isn't resting on her laurels; she works harder everyday to see herself in the biggest clubs in the world.

“Sometimes people think playing at Palace (Crystal) is the end of the road for me. I am still working incredibly hard because I haven’t achieved my dreams yet. I want to be able to play in the biggest clubs in the world. I want to play the world cup one day and get honors.”

Jean Senninde’s skills have taken her places meeting some of the greatest global football icons like Manchester United forward Juan Mata.

The travelled lady who idolises FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo among others surprisingly treasures playing for the national team at the CECAFA women championships as one of the best moments in her football life.

“Playing for the national team especially at the CECAFA last year was a great opportunity for me and I am working hard to always book a place on the national team as a starter. I am always ready to give 100 per cent because playing for the national team is an honour.”

As Jean receives, she shares. Through her Senninde foundation, she is gradually preaching the gospel of women involvement in football and strides are being made.
