Igara West legislator, Raphael Magyezi, the architect of the controversial constitutional amendment bill 2017 has disclosed new plans of tabling more bills before the August House with the motive of filling the loopholes in the Ugandan Constitution.

In an exclusive interview with NBS TV, Magyezi said the hard time he has faced for the last five months since he tabled the age limit bill has enabled him gain more experience in handling controversial constitutional bills.

Wednesday this week stands a day in the history of the Ugandan Parliament as legislators spent more than 14 hours in the Parliamentary chambers debating and voting on the controversial Constitutional amendment bill 2017 that sought to remove the cap on the age of the presidential aspirants and an extension of their tenure of office from five to seven years. The bill was eventually passed by Parliament.

Asked for his comment on the division that his bill has caused among members of parliament, Magyezi said it’s unfortunate that some legislators have failed to understand the role of a law maker which include making amendments in the Constitution where need be.

Magyezi disclosed that he is going to embark on the process of looking for more loopholes in the Constitution to enable him table more controversial bills on the floor of the House.

Magyezi has also warned legislators from Northern Uganda who have threatened to secede from Uganda about the repercussions of their statements.
