Police has said it will deploy at Parliament today ahead of the anticipated age presidential limit debate in the house.
The Inspector General of Police General Kale Kayihura was at parliament yesterday where he said he only paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
The contentious age limit bill meant to among other things remove the presidential age limits is expected to be presented today by the Legal and Parliamentary affairs committee which has been interviewing stakeholders on the bill.
Opposition MPs have also declared a ‘red’ week against the age limit.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament, Kayihura said that following the intelligence they got about plans by some elements to cause chaos, security will deploy to ensure safety.
He said they could not take any information lightly in regards to chaos, but emphasised that police is only doing its role of ensuring safety.
The Chief of Defence Forces General David Muhoozi was also at Parliament yesterday.
Earlier on MPs had expressed concern over the deployment of Police at Parliament.
Roland Mugume, the Rukungiri Municipality MP said the Speaker should task the officers who raided Parliament to account.
He said the sanctity of Parliament cannot just be abandoned like that, and next time MPs might not know if they will be attacked or not.
In September, plain-clothed security personnel believed raided parliament and ejected MPs who were reportedly causing chaos in the house.
Kayihura later said he had planned and coordinated the ejection of the MPs from the house.
