Maid battered, cut by her bosses for barking at baby

Police in Seguku are holding a couple for allegedly battering their house help over barking at their eight months old baby.

The 13-year-old maid is nursing injuries including a deep cut on her right arm after her bosses, all residents of Sseguku Katale in Nsangi Sub County, accused her of verbal abuse to their baby, consequently pummeling her.

The couple was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after a tip off from neighbors who found the maid bleeding while baby sitting. On further interrogation, the maid revealed that her bleeding was as a result of an early morning beating from one of her bosses.

‘’I was cut by daddy before he left for work. He accused me of barking at the baby and throwing it down at night,” she told neighbors.

The neighbors then rushed her to hospital before reporting the matter to police which swung into action, arresting the couple.

During interrogations with the police, the couple confessed to beating their house help.

“She barked at the baby and threw it down, that is why my husband beat and cut her,” one of them said.

However, the maid says that the couple has made it a habit to torture her. She says that even with her hand deeply cut, she was ordered by her bosses to fetch water from outside the house.

Doctor Sebaggulu Daniel Musoke, a medical officer at Doctor’s Hospital in Sseguku, says the maid required operation in the theatre to close the wound that was seven centimeters deep.

“Her condition is now better, we hope she will recover with time,” Dr Musoke said.

Officer in Charge (OC) of Katale Bukwenda police station, Samuel Lubega says the couple will be charged with child labor and assault.
