UBTEB to inspect over 100 Private Vocational Institutions for accreditation

UBTEB to inspect Uganda Association of Private Vocational Institutions (UGAPRIVI) member institutions for accreditation as Examination centres.

The Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) is a statutory national assessment body established by an Act of Parliament and mandated to streamline, regulate, coordinate and conduct credible national examinations and award Certificates and Diplomas in the Business, Technical and Vocational professions in Uganda.

According to Kambaho Narasi the Senior Information and Communication Officer UBTEB, the exercise done every two years, is aimed at increasing enrolment for students for UBTEB examinations.

He however adds that this is also done ‘to confirm availability of the training facilities, qualified staff, assess the legal status, courses and programs offered.’

In the past the body has been blamed for certifying institutions that do not have facilities to teach and examine students under the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board.

‘The inspection helps to cater for institutions with candidates who are interested in sitting FOR UBTEB May/June examinations and those who are interested in sitting for Nov/December examinations,’ Kambaho said.

The inspection exercise will start on November 27, 2017 up to December, 1, 2017.

‘Must have the training facilities like lecture halls, workshops and equipment for training, qualified staff, but must have a license from Ministry of education and sports and be offering Nationally accredited academic programmes to be accredited.’

Over 100 training institutions applied to be accredited as examinations.

The activity is Inline with the Statutory Instrument 2009, No.9, UBTEB is mandated to accredit training institutions.
