Striking medics under their umbrella body the Uganda Medical Association have brushed aside threats to have them sacked insisting no amount of intimidation will force them back to work.
Speaking to journalists at Mulago Guest House, the association’s head of the ethics committee Dr Frank Assimwe made it clear that that only negotiations will help end a strike that has paralysed the health sector for the last two weeks.
President Museveni while speaking in Buryaha county in Kabarole district threatened to sack all the striking doctors and replace them with those desperate for jobs.
The medics also announced the formation of a legal committee to help their colleagues who are being forced out of hospital staff houses as they move to stop what they call attempts by RDCS to intimidate doctors on strike.
Negotiations however continue between the medics and the government.
