Issa Kikungwe buried at Nabbingo

The former Kyadondo South MP, Issa Kikungwe, was today buried at his ancestral home in Nabbingo, Wakiso district, 12 KM from Kampala.

Kikungwe, who died early Sunday morning at Mengo Hospital, was buried according to Islamic rituals which stipulate that a muslim should be buried swiftly and fast.

Before the burial, mourners congregated at his home in Lweza, along Entebbe Road, where they performed prayers and paid their last respects.

Kikungwe had battled with complications of a brain tumour for years and spent long spells during the 9th parliament receiving treatment in India.

In 2016, after serving 15 years in parliament, Kikungwe decided to contest for the Kampala lord mayorship but lost to Erias Lukwago. He then retreated to private business.

He becomes the third senior DP member to die in a spell of 11 months.

In December 2016, Mathias Nsubuga, the party secretary general died followed by former national chairman, Boniface Byanyima in May 2017.

In July 2017, the former party president John Ssebaana Kizito also died.
