Police officer shoots one dead in Kabale

Residents of Kigongi ward in Kabale municipality were last evening enveloped in grief when a police officer shot a 15-year-old boy to death.

The incident occurred at around 7pm opposite Voice of Kigezi building when a police officer identified as John Bosco Monday, shot Ronald Taremwa, a senior three student at Rock High School.

One other person identified as Medard Tukwasibwe was injured.

Monday, who was riding a Motorcycle registration number UP 1399 lost control and knocked a boda boda cyclist.

 However, according to eye witness accounts, the police officer opened fire when he was asked to repair the damaged motorcycle.

One eye witness Osbert Ariho says that both the dead and the injured were not part of the scuffle.

The shooting triggered protests forcing police to use  tear gas and live bullets to disperse the angry residents.

The causality was rushed to Kabale regional referral hospital and the body of the deceased was taken to the same hospital for postmortem.

Kigezi Region Police Commander, Denis Namuwoza said that the suspect has already been arrested.

Namuwoza also said that the suspect shot out of fear, though eye witnesses claimed that he was under the influence of alcohol.
