The arrested senior police officers have today appeared before the General Court Martial. The session was chaired by Lt Gen Andrew Guti, the chairman of the General Court Martial.

They were read several charges ranging from extortion, murder and kidnap. Their lawyer, Caleb Alaka pleaded with court to give them more time since they “had been ambushed.”

Our reporter confirms that the suspects have been charged with Kidnap contrary to section 242 penal code Act cap 120.

They have not yet pleaded to these charges because their lawyers; Evans Ochieng and Caleb Alaka want to make objections to jurisdiction of the court to try them. They also claim that their rights were infringed upon while in detention.

The officers who appeared before the court are; Joel Aguma, the commandant of the Professional Standards Unit (PSU), Nixon Agasirwe, a former head of police special operations and Abel Tumukunde, the Kampala Metropolitan police flying squad commander.

The trio is close to Gen Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police.

Joseph Baroza, Kayihura’s former aide who is away in Algeria is also being pursued. There were reports that he will be repatriated soon.

They were arrested in the course of the week by officers of CMI and detained at Makindye military barracks.
