After a six hours’ standoff between former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye and the police at Rukungiri court, the latter entered court premises and snatched the former from his car, before driving him to an unknown destination by 6:30pm.
At exactly, 1:00am, Kizza Besigye, Secretary for Mobilisation, Ms Ingrid Turinawe, Patrick Amuriat, a candidate for the party presidency arrived at Kampala CPS, where they remain parked amidst tight security.
Dr Besigye was arrested last week over charges of murder along side three others. They were detained at Naggalama police station for three days without trial.
On Tuesday, through their lawyers, they filed a request asking court to order for their release from “illegal detention.” Court consequently summoned officers in charge of Naggalama police station to explain why the suspects were still under detention in vein.
On the contrary, police instead whisked the group away back to Rukungiri where they stood trial for inciting violence, malicious damage to property and disobedience of statutory duty on Wednesday morning and were granted a non cash bail and their case was adjourned till November 16. But on release, they were rearrested on claims they would cause chaos in Rukungiri.
