Lawyers go to court over Besigye detention

The lawyers of Dr Kizza Besigye have said they are going to petition court seeking a declaration of unconditional release for the FDC stalwart.

Besigye has been detained at Naggalama police post since Friday evening. This is beyond the 48 hours that the law allows. He is being held together with  Patrick Amuriat and Ingrid Turinawe.

Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago told journalists at Naggalama police post that they will push for Besigye release.

"This is unfair. You cannot arrest someone and keep him for this long without producing them in court,"Lukwago said.

The lord mayor said Besigye was in good health.
