UPL: Onduparaka stun Express at home to go top

West Nile side Onduparaka FC on Friday stunned Express FC in their own backyard in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

Two goals, including a death minute stunner ensured the Arua based side beat the Red Eagles to go top of the table.

The visitors were the first to taste the soup at Wankulukuku, thanks to an Alfred Leku goal, only two minutes after recess. The Red Eagles however restored parity at home through new recruit Daniel ‘Mzee’ Sserunkuuma’s strike that saw matters leveled at the Muteesa II memorial stadium.

Meanwhile in the added time, Samson Caesar Okhuti broke Express’ back with a ninety second minute stunner that buried the hosts. The result ensured Onduparaka registered their first win away from home against any of the big four teams of the Uganda’s top flight football including Villa, Express, KCCA and Vipers.

The best the Caterpillars have achieved in their last away outings against the big four teams has been salvaging a draw but their journey has always been a rugged one, including a seven nil defeat at Lugogo last season.

Speaking after the game, Onduparaka tactician Leo Adraa owed his team’s performance to good preparation before the game at Wankulukuku.

“Last season it was a draw and this time round we prepared ourselves to play better than we did the previous year,”Adraa told journalists shortly after the game on Friday.

“We emphasised getting maximum points from them today. They played very well but never utilized the home advantage.”

The Onduparaka coach said the win against the Red Eagles serves as a motivation as they host Vipers in their next game at home in Arua.

In Bombo, army side UPDF FC played to a two all draw with Entebbe based Masavu FC in another game in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

Onduparaka FC are now top of the Azam Uganda Premier League log on thirteen points, two above second placed Kitende based Vipers SC after six games.

Express are tenth with seven points whereas Masavu are last at four points on the sixteen team log of the Ugandan top flight league.

On the top scorers chart, Bright Stars’ Nelson Senkatuka, Milton Karisa(Vipers) and Dan Sserunkuuma are leading with three goals each.
