If police beat us again, we shall beat them too- Mafabi

Budadiri West County Member of Parliament, Nathan Nandala Mafabi has issued a warning to Uganda police to be ready for a beating should they do the same to the people.

Speaking to NBS TV, Nandala said police are going overboard with the way they are acting regarding the age limit consultations.

“MPs are supposed to consult anywhere, even other people who are not MPs, so the police should not beat us, because if they do then we shall beat them,” he said

Mafabi said the Rukungiri chaos that led to the death of one person and several others injured including a police officer, was uncalled for. He said that since the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party had already booked the stadium, police should have just let them address their rally and leave in peace.

Mafabi also accused the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura of frustrating FDC presidential campaigns.

“Kayihura and Museveni are stopping our presidential candidates from campaigning yet we had agreed with them. We are practicing democracy as a party and that should not be a problem. Our candidates must be allowed to campaign freely,” he said.

It should be noted that one of the FDC party presidential candidates, Patrick Oboi Amuriat was arrested on Thursday alongside Dr Kizza Besigye as they headed to Kabale District.

The two are now being detained at Nagalama Police station.
