Archbishop Lwanga expresses concerns over “selective” age limit amendment

The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, has expressed concern over a ruling party led campaign to amend article 102(b) to lift the presidential age limit.

According to the Catholic prelate, amendments should not be selective to benefit an individual but the entire public.

Lwanga was speaking during the centennial celebrations of the Virgin Mary’s appearance to children in Fatima, in Portugal which took place at Our Lady of Fatima church in Nakulabye in Kampala on Sunday.

“Is there anyone who does not want peace? Why doesn’t parliament look for better amendments to make that benefit everyone rather than this one of age limit,” he said.

Lwanga also spoke against attempts to silence those who publicly debate the age limit matter. He urged members of the opposition to give their colleagues in the ruling government opportunity to debate.

“Everyone should be given an opportunity to debate peacefully on this matter,” he said.
