Police summons Red Pepper, Daily Monitor editors over age limit stories

Police in Uganda have summoned editors to Red Pepper and Monitor publications over age limit stories.

A summons dated October 10 from the Director Criminal Investigations and signed by Oketcho Isaac, reads that inquiries are being conducted regarding stories published by the two dailies.

On Tuesday, Daily Monitor published a story titled; “Age Limit budget of the legal and parliamentary committee shows that members will spend 700m in 10 days.”

A day later, Red Pepper on the other side published an article titled: "MP Magezi bags Shs600m for age limit removal."

"You are therefore in pursuance of the provisions of section 27A of the Police Act (As Amended) required to report before the undersigned at CID Headquarters Kibuli on 16th October, 2017 at 1000hrs in that regard,” the summons for both parties read.

The summons come barely hours after NRM chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa said that President Museveni is infuriated by media reports claiming party legislators were bribed to push and handle the age limit Bill.
