Man kills wife, baby, poisons self

Police in Nsangi, Wakiso District have started investigations into  circumstances under which a woman and her three month old baby were killed and bodies dumped in  a nearby swamp.

According to Kampala Metropolitan area Deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said the incident happened at Kazinga in Nsangi subcounty.

"Fatuma Nakitende and her baby  according to residents  and relatives were killed by her husband Ismael  Kinobi, 42,"Owoyesigire said.

According to the police mouthpiece, after committing the crime, Kinobi fled their home to his ancestral village in Butambala district from where he poisoned himself to death.

"The  bodies of the deceased were taken to Mulago for postmortem."

This comes on the backdrop of the murder of over 20 women in Entebbe and Nansana areas of Wakiso district.

Speaking to residents of Kasenyi in Nkumba town council recently, the Inspector General of Police, Gen.Kale Kayihura said that preliminary investigations into the gruesome murders in Wakiso have indicated that some of the  women have been killed by their lovers following misunderstandings in their relationships.

"some of the girls have been killed by lovers due to cheating,"Gen.Kayihura said attracting laughter from the residents.

"There is need to register all girls but I dont know how it will be done."

He however asked the public especially politicians to desist from bashing police over the murders.

"Be fair to us .You can judge us if we are negligent but donot play politics, "Gen.Kayihura said.

"These are lives of people we are dealing with .Don't make statements ."

Kayihura said that the issue of women murders should not be something to laugh about but collective responsibility for everyone to fight the crime.
