The Commander in Chief of the armed forces, president Yoweri Museveni has sent the UPDF second division commander Brig.Dick Olum to Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to a message from the deputy army spokesperson,Lt Col Deo Akiiki, the new deployments and appointments in the UPDF have seen Brig.Olum appointed as the country’s defence adviser in Kinshasa.
“Brig.Olum will be replacing Brig. Geoffrey ‘Taban’ Kyabihende who passed away in early August this year,”says the message from Lt.Col.Akiiki.
Olum has been the Commanding Officer of the UPDF third Division based in Moroto, since April 2015.
He also served as the commander of the UPDF contingent in Somalia from June 2013 to November 2014.
Brigadier Richard Otto has subsequently been appointed as the third Division Commander to replace Brig.Olum.
Brig. Otto was the UPDF Contingent Commander of the African Union Regional Task Force (AU-RTF) and is credited for defeating LRA in Central African Republic.
In another related development,the commander in chief of the armed forces has also sent Col. Omero Tingira Irumba to Khartoum as a Defence Adviser from Somalia where he has been a Defence Attache.
He previously served as the UPDF’s Director of Counter Terrorism.
Col.Omero has been replaced by Brig. Joseph Lucky Kidega who has been the first Division commander to become the new Defence attache to Somalia.
