The StarTimes Uganda Premier League has launched its own award ceremony to recognise the best performers in the league with the creation of the ‘StarTimes Uganda Premier League Season Awards’.

The seasonal awards will be the definitive accolade to celebrate and reward the top performers of every season in the top flight division.

The inaugural edition of the awards will be awarded at the end of the 2021/22 season with different stakeholders including journalists and fans playing an active part.

The awards were launched on Monday morning in Kampala and add to the monthly coach and player awards that are given out by Pilsner since 2018.

“As you are aware, we have been awarding a Pilsner Lager Man of the Match, a Pilsner Lager Coach of the Month and a Pilsner Lager Player of the Month Award.”

“And now starting this season we shall also be awarding the overall best players and coach of the season,” SUPL board Chairman, Arinaitwe Rugyendo announced at Kati Kati.

“This is something that we have been meaning to do for some time now. If you recognise and award the best players of each game and of each month it only makes sense that we also recognise the overall best players of the entire season.”

“We thank Pilsner Lager for expanding their partnership with the StarTimes Uganda Premier League to include the End of Season Awards and we are confident that this initiative will enhance our local premier league,” Rugyendo added.

Pilsner Brand Manager, Kihumuro Edgar said the Pilsner Lager SUPL Season Awards are just one of the many ways that Pilsner Lager is adding value to the local football landscape.

“As you know we recently unveiled a 1 billion shillings investment in local football and these End of Season Awards are part of this investment,” Kihumuro said.

“Since we are awarding the best players of each game and of each month, it only makes sense that we also recognise the overall best players who have stood tall the entire season,” he added.

Up to 12 categories will be recognised at an awards gala at the end of the season with the player of the season the biggest award on the night.

The Golden boot winner for the league’s top scorer and most assist of the season for the top assist creator will also be rewarded.

Other individual categories will include defender of the season, midfielder of the season, goalkeeper of the season and coach of the season.

The most outstanding young player for players below the age of 21 will also be recognised while players will decide on the player’s player with coaches also given the chance to name their most outstanding player.

There will also be a fair play award for a club and also the UPL best XI.

The categories to be awarded in the Pilsner Lager SUPL Season Awards are;

Player of the Season
Top Goal Scorer of the Season
Most Assists of the Season
Midfielder of the Season
Defender of the Season
Goalkeeper of the Season
Coach of the Season
Young Player of the Season
Players’ Player of the Season
Coaches’ Player of the Season and the
Fair Play Team of the Season
UPL Best XI
