Oulanyah: "The death of Gen Lokech is a huge loss to the nation"

The Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah has said the fallen deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj Gen Paul Lokech was a leader willing to put his soul into any job to ensure that it is well accomplished.

Lokech was pronounced dead at his home on Saturday morning and the cause of death has not yet been established. However, unconfirmed reports indicate that the general, also referred to as the Lion of Mogadishu, died of a blood clot.

The family said he has been nursing injuries sustained in the line of duty.

In a tweet, Oulanyah praised the fallen officer for being hardworking and for his determination to complete a task, something he said it’s very rare among the leaders in the country.

"He was dependable, committed and brought valour, patriotism and poise to all his tasks. He always stepped in the gap, raising against formidable challenges. Such a huge loss to the nation," he wrote.

According to police, the man whose name is almost inseparable from military battles aimed at quelling unrest in Somalia,his passing is a big shock to the nation.

However, the Inspector General of Police (IGP),Martin Okoth Ochola said yesterday that he had tasked the directory of Medical Services, Dr Moses Byaruhanga to carry out postmortem to establish the actual cause of death.
