SFC passes out 190 officers

The commander of the Special Forces Command, Brig Peter Candia has asked the soldiers of SFC to continue building their capacity in order to do a good job as is required of them.

"The purpose of training is to make you professional. You are able to do the right thing and knowing what you are supposed to do,” he said.

Brig Candia made the remarks on Wednesday at the SFC Sera Kasenyi Training School in Wakiso district while passing out 190 officers, 62 of whom attained skills in defensive training, 103 Presidential Police Guard(PPG) on refresher training and 25 in protective training.

The SFC commander applauded the team for successfully completing the different courses but noted that the making of a good soldier starts with building his or her character then competence, knowing the job, being able to act, and doing the right things consistently with the perceived values of the institution.

He challenged the trainees on the changing nature of threats the world over, adding that unlike in the second and third generation warfare where a country's threat were well defined, the fourth and fifth generations involve non-kinetic military assault or asymmetric warfare with no clear military front that every soldier must be aware of.

He cited uncontrolled misuse of social media as such kind of non-kinetic military warfare that the soldiers must be keen about.

The SFC commander further reiterated the cardinal role of the Special Forces Command as being the protector of the Commander in Chief and asked the soldiers to take this task bestowed upon them very seriously.

“The core values of a Special Forces Command soldier are courage, discipline, respect for others, integrity, loyalty, selfless commitment, and always ready to work. Avoid drugs, unauthorized access to the press, uncontrolled debts as well as gambling and betting,” Brig Candia urged the soldiers.

The SFC Deputy Commander Brig Gen Felix Busizoori reiterated to the trainees, the purpose of training as the road to professionalism since it enables them to do the right thing.

He noted that training builds an officer’s discipline if they know what to do.

“When you fully train, your level of discipline increases,” he said.

The commander of the Sera Kasenyi Training School, Lt Col Willy Ndyomugabe said that some of the trainees were unable to complete the training due to indiscipline.

He said the course that started in November last year was interrupted by election-related violence but noted that they later resumed in February this year.

He noted that defensive driving was designed for the trainees to familiarize themselves with all types of terrain including smooth and rough, acquaint themselves with road sign interpretation, and to gain steadiness on the road.

The course also focused on political education, development, counter-terrorism and skills at arms.

The function was attended by among others the deputy commander of SFC, Brig-Gen Felix Busizoori, Group Commanders, Col John Bosco Asinguza, Col Namanya, Col Namawa, Commanding Officers, Commandants, senior and junior Officers in the Special Forces Command.
