Moroto: Widow stabbed multiple times over cup of porridge

RICHARD OYEL

A 39-year-old woman in Moroto is fighting for her life after she was allegedly attacked by her niece over a cup of porridge.

Christine Okoi, the victim, is currently admitted at Moroto hospital.

Police in Moroto said they found Okoi soaked in blood at her home in Katanga home, on the outskirts of Moroto town following a distress call from concerned neighbours.

Jacinta Akol, a daughter to Okoi, told The Nile Post that her mother was stabbed multiple times.

Police are yet to publicly identify the suspect in the attack but said she is in custody and will be arraigned before court soon.

Sources told us that the suspect is a niece to Okoi.

Okoi, who is a widow, looks after five children who were not home at the time of the attack.

She has undergone surgery but she is not yet able to eat or drink and cannot speak.

Joan Nakiru, a neighbour, described the victim as a “wonderful person” and wondered why anyone would want to harm her.

“We used to sit and talk and laugh for hours. I’m still in shock. I pray she recovers quickly”
