FDC holds retreat to reconcile members, sets agenda for the next five years

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has retreated to assess what went right and wrong during the 2021 general election.

The two-day retreat is being held under the theme:"Better legislation and enhanced party growth".

Top on the agenda is to orient the newcomers on developments in the parliament and to reconcile some party members who could have fallen out in the just concluded elections and set new targets.

The retreat is taking place in Namugongo, Kira division in Wakiso district.

Speaking to the leaders yesterday, the party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat, congratulated the members who participated the 2021 general elections.

"My happiness is premised on the fact that we are emerging from an election that was not just an election but a military operation. And so just to see all of us here able to talk to each other is a great achievement,"said Amuriat.

He explained that the main purpose of the retreat is to set the agenda for the next five years.

"We are here to set the tone that we are going to use as we go past every milestone in the next 5 years. Therefore my friends, it doesn’t matter that we are going to the 11th parliament as a small percentage of the total house,"he noted.

Basing on the theme, Amuriat said that their expectations of the newly elected MPs is very high adding that they are going to go to Parliament as effective legislators.

"We also believe that the struggle to liberate this country will not only be achieved in the 11th parliament but act as a catalyst to bring change to our country. There is also a high expectation of you when you get to the communities to speak to and show them direction,"he said.
