"Janet may bring me Covid-19", Museveni jokes

President Yoweri Museveni joked that his wife, the First Lady Janet Museveni’s ‘constant’ work meetings with her junior officials at the Ministry of Education and Sports may bring COVID-19 home.

President Museveni was speaking during the National Prayer Breakfast held at State House Entebbe on Thursday.

Museveni who was commending the First Lady and the Minister of Education Janet Museveni for fostering unity and collegiality in the Ministry, something he says has been lacking in the past.

According to Museveni, the two factors complimented by the First Lady’s prayerful character are the reason the ministry has registered success in sports, especially in football and athletics.

Museveni mentioned the likes of Ugandan Golden boy and three-time record breaker Joshua Cheptegei, Halimah Nakayi, Stephen Kiprotich and Uganda Cranes, whose success he attributed to specific changes in the ministry stewarded by his wife.

“I thank Mama Janet for her prayerful character. As the Education and Sports Minister, she has fostered unity and collegiality in that institution, something that lacked in the past. Her prayers are also bearing fruit as the country registers successes in football, athletics, etc.” Museveni said.

He however said that he constant meetings could lead to spreading the pandemic to him.

“I always see her calling her group and they meet somewhere. I think she’ll even bring me Coronavirus,” he joked.

On October 7, Joshua Cheptegei smashed the world record with a time of 26mins 11.00 seconds in Valencia, marking a third world champion record this year alone.
