The Democratic Party (DP) has today unveiled Charles James Ssenkubuge as the party’s flagbearer in the race for Kampala Lord Mayor.

Ssenkubuge was unveiled at the party headquarters in Nakulabye on Balintuma road by party president Norbert Mao.

At the unveiling, Mao took the opportunity to warn DP members who have strayed from the party that, “If you cannot pick up the pieces, pick up the lessons. we shall not be tolerant to those who are on ‘tingi tingi’ today they are here tomorrow they are there.”

The sometime thespian who is best known by his stage name  Charles “Siasa” Ssenkubuge said, “I am not playing siasa. I have come so serious and with the palm fist and the hoe we shall win.”

Ssenkubuge’s selection came as a surprise for many as previously the Democratic Party had named Beatrice Kayanja  as its flagbearer for the position.

Kayanja’s nomination was brought to a shocking halt by the Electoral Commission last week, with social media reports citing issues to do with her academic credentials.

Speaking to Nile Post, however, The Electoral Commission’s returning officer for Kampala, Fredrick Muwaya said that Kayanja was nit a registered voter for Kampala, which is a prerequisite for any candidate who wants to run as Lord Mayor.

DP celebrated its 65th year of existence at the same occasion.
