Kiwanda to NUP: "You can't claim to be democratic without organising primaries"

The vice chairperson of the NRM central region, Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi, has scoffed at Power Power and National Unity Platform for failure to organise party primaries which he said is a sign of being undemocratic.

He made made the remarks while meeting NRM party flag bearers in Lugazi municipality in Buikwe district over the weekend.

According to Kiwanda, party primaries provide an opportunity for the members of the public to freely choose whoever they want to represent them.

He noted such exercises create confidence in people hence making the all process of electoral process transparent and democratic.

“To prove that People Power is People Power, why didn’t they allow people to choose the flag bearers? Ladies and gentlemen, the real people power is in NRM. If you want to understand the definition of people power come to NRM,"he said.

Kiwanda a condemned the act of discrimination which is being exhibited within the NRM along the lines of religion and tribe.

"We as NRM we are so dear to the Katikkiro of Buganda. We are so dear to all the Buganda ministers. Let's stop the act of discrimination. Please be free to wear your yellow shirt, berets and let's work together,"he said.

Robert Wamala, the Buikwe NRM chairperson, urged all the defeated members in the primaries to come and work together with the rest and ensure steady development of the country.

He also urged members to refrain from all forms of unlawful acts which may taint the picture of the party before the entire population.
