Chameleone:"The actions of the police have given me reason to fight for my country"

Singer and Kampala Lord Mayor hopeful, Joseph Mayanja, has said police's determination to frustrate his activities will not stop him from the struggle of liberating Uganda.

Mayanja, who is popularly known as Jose Chameleone, said that police has given him reason to fight and ensure that the people of Uganda are liberated as soon as possible.

His remarks came shortly after police  fired teargas to disperse crowds that had came to witness his office launch on Balintuma road in Mengo in this week.

Mayanja was expected to launch his own election campaign team but when the police asked the crowds that had gathered to leave the place, they declined.

However, according to the singer turned politician, police should have given him guidance on how to go about the all thing than firing rubber bullets and teargas at them.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said the gathering was stopped because the organisers of the launch didn't put in place all the necessary SOPs of the Ministry of Health but Mayanja said those are excuses.

"The truth is that we followed standard operating procedures but as you know our police can come up with excuses more especially when they want to frustrate you,"he said in an interview on NBS TV's Uncut,

Although police insists that there were no injuries sustained by anyone in the process, Mayanja said that his left leg was injured.

"My left leg has been injured but we shall not give up. They are just fearing us because they can't manage this wave. We shall make sure that we continue with the struggle,"he said.

He said negotiation would have solved the misunderstanding between him and the force.

“The main reason of opening our offices was to unveil my campaign team but police didn't give us the chance and police should not mislead the public that we didn't follow SOPs,"he said.
