Bobi Wine finally breaks silence on “mystery” surrounding his academic documents

2021 Elections Watch

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament and presidential hopeful, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine has for the first time commented on the issues surrounding his academic documents.

Lawyer Male Mabirizi recently sparked debate when he applied to the Electoral Commission to be availed with Kyagulanyi’s academic documents in which he says there are irregularities.

In a facebook post the legislator assured his supporters that there is no need to panic.

“My assurance to all of you friends is that there is no cause for alarm with regard to all my records - whether academic or otherwise,”Bobi Wine posted on his social media accounts.

He said whereas he is set to issue a detailed statement about the matter, his supporters ought to treat the same as “desperate” attempts by government to block, embarrass or detract its opponents.

“Unfortunately, at every interval, they have always easily found some tools to use in these shameful maneuvers. They have done worse things and they will do more, but nothing, completely nothing will stop our revolution.”

The legislator also took a swipe at Parliament’s IT department for altering the date of his birth from the original 1982 to 1980 without his knowledge.

“I have tasked them to explain that and will be speaking to the Director soon. In the meantime, they rectified the anomaly immediately,”Bobi Wine said.

Lawyer Male Mabirizi recently said Kyagulanyi was not fit to stand for presidency for being dishonest about his age and date of birth.

I was availed with all documents presented by Bobi Wine to EC in 2017 Kyadondo East by-election and I discovered dishonesty on his side. He was not born in 1982 as he claims because the Makerere University transcript shows that he was born on February 12, 1980,”Mabirizi told journalists.

“This is something big for someone who wants to stand for presidency to be dishonest. We can’t allow our country be ruled by someone who is not transparent.”

“Hon Kyagulanyi failed Mathematics at O-level with F9 hence casting doubt in his ability to steer the country. He failed GP at A ‘Level, no wonder his inability to articulate policy issues for the country.”

Early this week, the lawyer took Bobi Wine to court after filing a private prosecution against the Kyadondo East Member of Parliament over his academic documents.

“Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert on the 31st  day of May 2017  at Wakiso district Electoral Commission returning officer’s office located at Wakiso, Wakiso town council at 9:56 am, you gave false information to the Electoral Commission returning officer for Wakiso district,  a public officer that you were 35 years of age knowing that it was false and you thereby caused the returning officer to nominate you as a candidate for Kyaddondo East constituency Member of Parliament, a thing he/she ought not to have done had he known the truth,” the charge sheet prepared by Mabirizi read in part.

The lawyer insists that he wants to block Kyagulanyi from standing for presidency in the forthcoming election.

The move by Mabirizi has since been seen and categorised by many, especially Kyagulanyi’s fanatics as one meant to curtail his fast-rising political career, especially his 2021 presidential bid but according to  Mabirizi , naysayers won’t stop him from doing the right thing.
