NRM warns aspirants against violence ahead of party primaries

NRM candidates in party primaries should control their supporters or else risk having the elections postponed or even candidates disqualified, the NRM electoral commission chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, warned.

Odoi issued the warning while in Hoima where he had gone to investigate the circumstances under which a supporter of Beatrice Wembabazi was beaten into a coma by the driver of the incumbent Hoima Woman MP, Harriet Businge.

"Any mess between now and 3rd September 2020 when you can't control your crowd, we shall postpone this election,"he threatened.

The NRM primaries will take place on September 4th 2020.

Odoi tasked the Hoima district executive committee to settle the standoff between the candidates seeking to carry the party flag for the district Woman MP position.

He said if the district fails to mediate, the party will postpone primaries for the district Woman MP race.

Dr Odoi cited ego, mudslinging, fake voter registers, and attempts by incumbent MPs to block new entrants as the major causes of all these chaos among the party candidates across the country.

He warned that any aspirant who will not abide by the party rules will be disqualified.
