I have pulled out of Presidential race for Bobi Wine- Aspirant

Timothy Mugerwa, an environmental activist has withdrawn his Presidential bid despite getting nominated and being cleared by the Electoral Commission.

Mugerwa was among the over 50 people eyeing incumbent Yoweri Museveni’s seat but says after consultation with different stakeholders, he decided to abandon the race and rally behind National Unity Platform’s Robert Kuyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.

According to him (Mugerwa), the move to support Bobi Wine will strengthen the forces of change.

“I abandoned the race for Bobi Wine. I had already consulted in over 80 districts and collected signatures. Now I have already installed a committee to mobilise for Bobi Wine,” he said.

Mugerwa’s exit leaves the race with around 49 people, with competition pitying Bobi Wine against incumbent Museveni following the withdrawal of four-time contender Dr Kizza Besigye.

The environmental activist now seeks to unseat Kalungu West County MP Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu.

Who is Mugerwa?

Timothy Mugerwa is a climate change activist doubling as a social entrepreneur and Pan-African youth leader.

He picked up interest in environmental issues after observing Africa’s slow response to climate change.

With a bachelor's degree in Social Work and Social Administration (Hons), he joined the Climate Reality Project in 2014 to gain more knowledge about the facts and issues at hands. After successfully completing the climate reality training in Johannesburg, South Africa, he was inspired to take action.

He engaged in training, educating, and raising awareness about climate change in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa where he resided at the time. He trained over 1000 students, communities, and local leaders.

Mugerwa was born in Lukerere village, Bulawula parish in Kalungu Subcounty, Kalungu district.

He is a former President of the African Youth Union.

He is a renowned environmentalist and climate activist who has led to many environmental campaigns. He is among the few climate reality leaders in Uganda who are trained by former US Vice President Al Gore.

He is a public speaker who speaks on international platforms and meetings. He has spoken in many high profile meetings including the UN. He is well-traveled with vast experience in global development and politics.
