AUDIO: Staff at Ugandan Embassy in Denmark plot to steal Ugandan tax payers' money on Zoom

Featured

A leaked audio-clip has exposed a number of diplomatic staff at the Ugandan Embassy in Denmark who were discussing how to share government money that they were not able to spend during the 2019/2020 financial year.

At the end of each financial year, each government institution is required, by law, to return all unspent balances to the Consolidated Fund in Uganda.

In a leaked video, however, Ambassador Nimisha Madhvani, the Head of Mission at the Ugandan Embassy in Denmark, held a zoom meeting with her deputy, Ambassador Elly Kamuhungye, and two other staff members to discuss how they can share the money that was meant for Covid-19 preparations among themselves.

In the audio, Ambassador Kamuhungye was first congratulated upon his new appointment before he suggested that they call the money 'allowances' instead of 'Covid-19 funds' for purposes of balancing the books of accounts.

Ambassador Kamuhungye also asked that they get a day and share the money so that by the auditors do the auditing, the money would be safe and no one will be suspected.

"Let's get a day and share the money. It should be kept in a safe by the time auditors come," Kamuhungye is heard saying.

In the audio, a staff is heard asking how much money should each of the diplomats get before Ambassador Kamuhungye replied to her; " Give yourselves 4000 dollars each."

It remains unclear on who leaked the audio but sources at the Foreign Affairs Ministry have said that the matter is pending verification and all the findings will determine the next course of action.
