Alex Muhangi’s Comedy Store to hold first ever virtual show

Comedian Alex Muhangi has announced that his company, Comedy Store Uganda will organize its first ever online concert this week.

In March, President Museveni ordered the closure of all events that attract big gatherings and consequently, comedy shows were greatly affected due to the current Coronavirus pandemic.

However, according to Muhangi, the comedy concert will result this week but will be held virtually.

“We have partnered with Fezah, the digital airplay monitoring and artist booking platform, to debut our online shows in a bid to cope with the ‘new normal’ which has restricted mass gatherings,”Muhangi said on Monday.

He said that the debut show will be held on Friday August, 28, 2020.

He explained that when government banned public gatherings over Coronavirus, event organisers had to find innovative ways to cope with the new normal.

While musicians have continued to make TV appearances and online performances, the comedy industry has had no activity. This is because stand-up comedy has always thrived on a live audience. But with the uncertainty surrounding how long the ban on shows could last, it is time to go digital,”Muhangi said.

“Comedy Store fans have been requesting us to think of alternatives through which they can continue to enjoy comedy. We think the online shows will be convenient for our fans. You can watch from wherever, including the diaspora. Ordinarily, our tickets would go for shs 20,000, but the online shows will cost 10,000. That way, you can spare some money for internet data. But it will be the same great entertainment package.”

He noted that fans can buy tickets via live.fezah.com or mobile money and visa cards.

Fezah has previously held online shows for Afrigo Band, Isaac Ruci, Michael Kitanda and Kenneth Mugabi.

They are as well hosting Iryn Namubiru’s concert and Blankets and Wine.
