"Keep politics out of the courts," Uganda Law Society tells politicians

The Uganda Law Society (ULS) has urged politicians to keep politics out of courts of law and to respect court decisions.

The statement comes only a few days after the constitutional court dismissed Dr. Kiiza Besigye's petition seeking remedies on his continued arrests by police.

The ruling has attracted criticism mainly from the opposition who have described it as biased and harsh especially when Justice Kenneth Kakuru and the other four Justices advised 'President' Besigye to seek justice from his own judges.

The ULS president Simon Peter Kinobe said the judges were right in their decisions.

He said judges have rights to give their opinion in any matter in court before them concerning the community.

"The orbiter of a judge can touch any matter in the society concerning either the case before him or otherwise, so judges have rights to give their opinion on any matter, "he said.

He cautioned politicians on their continued politicisation of matters of court saying that it's very dangerous in the society.

He urged all leaders to always respect the ruling of the court even though they don't agree with its ruling on a particular case.

"Every battle has a winner and loser and when you lose, take it gracefully and go on to the the next step but don't disrespect the court of law, "he said.
