Guard steals Shs18m from tenant, arrested a month later for spending too much money in his village

Police over the weekend arrested a security guard after his spending habits shocked village mates who had known him for being impecunious.

A one Desire Babu had in a month’s time made a name in Kisoro after he landed in his village and within no time, started spending like he had been born rich.

Babu, opened up a new bar, purchased all manner of bar equipment, started buying cattle from whoever was selling and rode around on a brand new motorcycle.

It took exactly 30 days for the police to arrest him when a coordination team from Kampala started searching for a security guard who had broken into an apartment in Kulambiro and made off with tenant’s money.

According to a statement from Police, investigations led them to Babu’s village in Kisoro where they found a glorifying story of his entrepreneurial skills and loud praises for his wealth.

“The security guard who allegedly broke into one of the apartments he was guarding in Kulambiro on the 14, November 2019 and took off with 5000 US, USH 18 million, a phone and laptop belonging to one of the tenants has been arrested by Tuba Police from Kisoro District,” a statement reads in part.

The security guard who has been identified as Babu Desire went into hiding after robbing an apartment he was supposed to be guarding in Kulambiro and was arrested today in Kisoro after investigations led us to his village where he had allegedly taken refuge. According to information from the village, Babu had opened up a bar , bought a motorcycle , acquired cattle (one head ) and bar equipment .

Babu was also found with items he had stolen from the house, like; a music system, plasma screen. His motorcycle was confiscated as well.
