Unlike me, many people are corrupt but are pretending- Museveni

President Museveni has said that many people are corrupt but are pretending to be holy, a thing he said is not good.

Museveni made the remarks on Wednesday at a function where Uganda was led into an anti-corruption walk to highlight the gains made in the fight against corruption but also announce new plans by government to fight the vice.

“When you ask that anyone who has never stolen, pick a stone and throw at the corrupt, I will be the first to pick the stone and throw it because I have never stolen anything but I am rich,” Museveni said.

“I have never stolen anything from anybody and I am not poor.”

To put the same into context, the President made reference to social media comments in regards to his herd of cattle at his farm in Kisozi that he usually posts on his social media accounts that many have questioned how he acquired.

Museveni insisted that he got the cattle way back before he came into government but said he has been able to keep it.

“I got them cows) from my grand and God has kept them. UNLA soldiers wanted to steal the cattle but failed. They even blew up the house of my mother using an RPG but they didn’t steal them because they were hidden in the savanna,” he emphasized.

“Many people here are corrupt but are pretending," he said.

The president noted that corruption is both a moral and spiritual problem that he said affects many people.

“The corrupt just like ticks are parasites because they get wealth that they didn’t earn. They suck other people’s blood,” he said.

He noted that wealth got out of corruption does not last long, noting that it has bad omen.

“It seems wealth from corruption has bad omen because I have not seen corrupt people sustainably successful. I know many but I don’t want to mention their names,” he said.

Museveni asked three government bodies including the Inspectorate of Government (IGG), State House anti-corruption unit and Uganda Revenue Authority to ensure that they don’t recruit employees only on the basis of qualifications. They should also consider their integrity.

“The problem with IGG, Nakalema’s office and URA is to recruit people depending on their qualifications. You should look for integrity.”

Museveni, however, asked leaders at various levels to ensure they help people get jobs where they can get some income so as not to get involved in corrupt tendencies.

“You should help people get out poverty so they can desist from material basis that that leads to corruption.”
