Museveni wants corrupt politicians, public servants to face UPDF Court Martial

Featured

A tough talking President Museveni has proposed that corrupt public servants and politicians be taken to the UPDF General Court Martial where their cases will be expeditiously heard and punishment delivered.

The Rogue has learnt that as the president prepares to participate in a Walk Against Corruption" tomorrow, he has been thinking of tougher measures to curb the vice.

He has now found a solution which includes the corrupt being arraigned before General Court Martial, which usually handles crimes related to the military.

He made the proposal during a private dinner with some members of his family at State House, we have been told.

Those found guilty of stealing beyond a certain amount of public resources will be subjected to death by firing squad, we have been told.

Those close to the president have told The Rogue that Museveni, apparently wants corruption to be equated to treason, murder and aggravated defilement.

"If you steal meant to help the sick and poor, that is murder by other means. If you procure substandard or expired drugs because you want to make a difference and eventually some people die, that is murder. If you are in charge of money that is supposed to build infrastructure and you make "enjawulo" and a poor road is built, that is murder because people will die," Museveni said during a lengthy dinner.

President Museveni said that he feels embarrassed that he has successfully fought very many wars including those outside Uganda yet this small jigger called corruption is still elusive.

He said in the new corruption fight, there will not be excuses that "we fought" that is why we are stealing.

He also distanced himself from people who use his name in their shady schemes. He

He said he has tried many things, launched new offices to fight graft but the thieves have instead become smarter.

"They infiltrate the offices and and bribe the anti-corruption officials. Imagine that," he said.

The proposal however has not been put on paper yet. It remains in the president mind according to one of the people who eavesdropped while the president was speaking.

One of the insiders told us that Museveni intends to table this proposal in cabinet as soon as possible where he hopes it will be unanimously endorsed.

However one analyst told us that if the proposal is finally adopted, it will threaten Museveni's hold onto power.

"The people stealing money are the ones who are bankrolling some of the political projects and doing mobilisation work. If you target them, it may be problematic," the analyst said.
