Brian Ssenyondo makes winning return to Mbarara City

Brian Ssenyondo made a winning return to Mbarara City when the Ankole Lions defeated Onduparaka 2-1 at the Kakyeka Stadium in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The former Synergy FC and returning Mbarara City FC coach started the game with a few changes in the team with the notable one being the decision to start Paul Mucureezi on the bench with Gadafi Gadinho, a former Onduparaka midfielder, starting in his place.

It was former Onduparaka forward, Solomon Okwalinga who gave the hosts the lead in the 17th minute when he headed in a high from Jasper Ahebwa.

Mbarara City continued pressing the visitors on a poor surface of the Kakyeka stadium, but could not force a second till the end of the first half.

Onduparaka returned a better side in the first minutes of the second half with Rajab Kakooza forcing an equalizer in the 70th minute of the game.

Mbarara City tried to force another goal to take the lead but no chances came by and the closest they came was when Swaliki Bebe missed from a headed ball that went slightly above the crossbar after Yusuf Wasswa had punched the ball back into play in the 87th minute.

It was Ibrahim Orit who sent in the ball from a corner-kick that the second goal resulted, a controversial one, handing Mbarara City a 2-1 victory - a first one at the Kakyeka Stadium this season.

This is Brian Ssenyondo's second win at Mbarara City having registered the first during his first stint when his side beat Proline 3-0 in the opener.

Two wins now in six games (2-draws and 2-losses), Brian Ssenyondo gave Mbarara City their first game in seven games, having failed to win any other game since Nkata's first against Busoga United in Luzira.

Mbarara City has now won three games in thirteen but remain 13th with 13 points.

Mbarara City Play Kyetume next at Kakyeka while Onduparaka host SC Villa in their next game.
