UPL: Express give away two goal lead to draw with Maroons

Express FC on Tuesday gave away a two-goal lead before being held to draw by prisons side, Maroons Football Club on Tuesday afternoon in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

The Red Eagles took the lead, only 13 minutes after kickoff through a Frank Kalanda who converted a spot-kick after Shafiq Avemah’s shot was handled in the 18-yard box by Sylvester Okello.

The resultant kick saw Kalanda send Maroons goalkeeper, Hannington Ssebwalunyo the wrong way for the opener and his 6th in the season.

The Wankulukuku based team was at it again, 17 minutes later, when captain Disan Galiwango’s cross was well received by Frank Ssenyondo to fire past the Maroons goalkeeper for the Red Eagles to take the lead beyond reach and ensure they were in the driving seat by the end of the first stanza in Njeru.

Resurgent Maroons

Despite being two goals down, Maroons showed signs of not giving up and after efforts of trying, they finally found the back of the net a few minutes before the whistle, through Fred Amaku.

In a game of two halves on Tuesday afternoon, Douglas Bamweyana’s Maroons the Prisons side played like they were from another planet in the second stanza and after a series of trying to put the ball in the back of the net, their efforts paid off when on form striker, Steven Mukwala scored the leveler to send the fans into frenzy.

Maroons continued dictating play at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru as they tried to take the lead but they were unfortunate to miss the chances they got.

The final whistle ensured both teams shared spoils in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Tuesday afternoon.

The draw saw Express FC move to 7th position on 14 points whereas Maroons are 5th on 17 points.
