Police man in Jinja hacked to death by suspect he had arrested, RDC orders police to shoot and kill

Police in Jinja have started a hunt for two people suspected to have hacked to death one of their own, identified as Goerge Tanga attached to Jinja Taxi Park Police post.

It is reported that Tanga had arrested two youth whom he found with metal scrap and dragged them to the station.

“On reaching the station, the suspects used the opportunity that the officer was alone. One of them broke away from him and a fight ensued. One of the boys had a sharp knife in his trouser pockets. He reached for it and put the officer out of action,” a police officer at the park told Nile Post.

According to the Jinja Resident District Commissioner Erick Sakwa, they suspect the officer was killed by the same people he had arrested.

“This is suspected to be the street kids whom he (Tanga) had arrested this morning for stealing iron bars.  When he brought them to police, one f them had a pang in his trousers which he used to cut the police officer to death,” he said.

Sakwa said that the police should start a shoot to kill move for whoever they spot carrying sharp objects.

“Some of these people who move with sharp objects like machetes, guns, iron bars should be gunned down. This that they have done gives a clear picture that they can kill anyone else.”

In July 2017, suspected armed men raided a trade show in Kapchorwa Boma Ground and hacked a police officer to death, and also fled with his gun.
