The Uganda national football team will need only a draw to see them qualify for the 2020 Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals to be played in Cameroon.

Uganda beat Burundi away in Bujumbura, 3 -0 in the first leg three weeks ago and in the Saturday return leg at Lugogo, the Cranes will need just a point to guarantee them qualification to the finals for the fifth time in a row.

“The players are in good shape and ready for the game. We had a few aspects that we had to address ahead of the return leg but we handled everything. We are optimistic for a positive result,” the team coach, Abdallah Mubiru said.

Both teams have met 16 times and Uganda has been victorious 11 times whereas Burundi has managed to win only twice.

Despite Uganda having featured in the CHAN finals for four times, Burundi has on the other side featured only once in 2014.

The game at Lugogo on Saturday afternoon will, therefore, see East African neighbours renew acquaintances but Uganda seems to have an upper hand.

Abdallah Mubiru will be spoilt for choice due to availability of a number of players but men to watch out will be Vipers Sports Club Forward Fahad Bayo and KCCA FC ‘s Mike Mutyaba who are currently on good form that will help the Cranes rain goals-against Burundi at Lugogo.

CHAN is a biennial CAF tournament exclusively for home-based players for the respective countries.

The 2020 CHAN will be the 6th edition since its inception and of these , Uganda has taken part in the last four consecutive editions(2011, 2014, 2016 and 2018).
