Couple arrested for killing two year old son, dumping body in neighbour’s latrine

Police in Bulaga have arrested a couple for killing their two-year-old son and dumping the body in a pit latrine.

According to deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, Patrick Busuulwa, 23 a plumber and a resident of Ssumbwe village, Ssumbwe parish, Wakiso Sub County in Wakiso district was arrested together with his wife, Allen Bukirwa, 18.

“They hit the child, Patrick Ssimbwa, 2 on the floor of their house and later packed the body in a blue polythene bag that they later dumped in a nearby swamp,” Owoyesigyire said.

It is said that the deceased’s father later reported a case of the disappearance of his son after the local authorities put his to task to explain the whereabouts of the deceased.

The police mouthpiece said the body was later that night removed from the swamp and dumped it into a neighbour’s pit latrine.

According to locals, Busuulwa had a misunderstanding with his earlier wife who was also the mother of the deceased and when the couple divorced, the child was left in the father's custody.

"When he married a new wife, she demanded that he takes the toddler to his mother and this could have forced Busuulwa to kill the two-year-old son," a local who preferred anonymity said.

The murder case was recorded at Bulaga Police post on reference number SD Ref:07/16/10/2019.

In the past, there have been a number of incidents in which fathers have either badly beaten or killed their children in various parts of the country.
