KCCA FC take lion’s share as nominees for Airtel FUFA awards are revealed

StarTimes Uganda Premier League defending champions KCCA FC has taken the lion’s share as names for this year’s Airtel FUFA awards were released.

A total of 28 candidates have been nominated for the 2019 Airtel FUFA awards that are to be held on December 14.

The nominees were revealed on Wednesday during a function held at the Serena Hotel Kampala.

The Lugogo based side has three players, including two youngsters, Mustapha Kiiza and Allan Okello, as well as resurgent veteran, Mike Mutyaba.

URA FC, Vipers and Mbarara City each have two nominees whereas new league entrants, Kyetume FC and Wakiso Giants each have one candidate nominated for the awards.

The list included 16 candidates vying for the award of the male best footballer of the year, whereas 12 other candidates will be competing for the female best player of the year in a list of footballers generated by head coaches and captains of the clubs in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and the FUFA Women Elite League.

The nominees are considered basing the period between on December 7, 2018, and the closing date will be  December, 14, 2019.

Coaches of the FUFA Women Elite League nominated their top 5 candidates for the FUFA Female player of the year 2019.

There will be a second round of voting by the coaches and captains for the male player of the year and female player of the year to get the top 5.

Public voting

Public voting will get underway after the release of the top five Male and Female Players of the Year respectively on November 14 until 14th December 2019.

New categories

This year’s awards have seen five new categories introduced and these include the best XI 2019 for women, football coach of the year in the women category, best squad of the year (club or national team), FUFA member associations’ award and team fans of the year.
