ISO to launch onslaught on “professional” criminals

The Internal Security Organisation has said they are soon launching an onslaught on what they termed as professional criminals.

According to the ISO Director General, Col. Kaka Bagyenda, professional criminals are those that hide behind different professionals to participate in criminality.

“There are many lawyers, doctors, engineers, IT officers, politicians and many others who use their professions as a cover-up to carry out crime. We shall leave no stone unturned,” Col. Kaka said on Sunday.

“These also including businessmen who on the surface are engaged in business but in the background, they are engaged in criminality. Politicians too won’t be spared because some of them are crooks and international mafia.”

The ISO chief said there has been a problem where these criminals work with some officials in courts of law to ensure they are released when taken to court and return to terrorize the public.

He noted that the security organization will now be exposing the planners and beneficiaries of the said criminality in what he termed as the last phase in fighting criminality.

He cited an example of a group of three people including the Lugazi mayor, Deogratius Tumwesigye Mbabazi whom he said survived being murdered by a group of panga wielding criminals.

He noted that the criminals who are in the ISO custody working for a certain businessman had hatched planned to carry out separate attacks on two women in Mukono but also the Lugazi mayor.

On interrogation, the suspects admitted they had been hired to attack the three people including Tumwesigye and steal from them and if they resisted, they would be killed.

The ISO chief, however, noted that after dealing with other criminals, they realized there are professionals who are directly benefitting from the various criminals committed around the country.

“Our young people have been trapped into these criminal networks that are supported by professionals. It is high time we exposed these so-called professions,”Col.Kaka noted.
