Women urge girls in Busoga to embrace science and innovation
The Forum for African Women Educationalist (FAWE) and the ministry of Education and Sports are promoting engineering, science and technology for girls in 40 secondary schools across Busoga sub region.
In Busoga region the three year project is running in Wanyange girls secondary school,Iganga secondary school , Bunya secondary school, Kidera secondary school and launched last year to help girls embrace science subjects.

Mary Teete from ministry of Education and Sports noted that many students are theoretical and there is need to apply the knowledge through innovating different projects.
She said students should be encouraged to engage in practical activities as one way of promoting self learning.
"When you are taught sciences in class, you aught to come out of class and then apply what you have studied theoretically with physical projects,"she said.
She noted practical work helps to inculcate social values like sharing, cooperation, team spirit and compassion.
Susan Tumusiime ,the executive director FAWE Uganda said that girls have embraced sciences more especially with the schools they are currently working with.
"We have results that can prove that and and they are moving on with sciences to higher levels. We have also built the capacity of the teachers on gender responsive pedagogy,"she said.
Some of the projects students are carrying out includes an innovative machine which helps to dispose rubbish.
