Ssekitoleko: We need more agricultural teachers in schools

As government embarks on restructuring the education curriculum in the country, the Uganda Agribusiness Alliance wants government to prioritize the inclusion of agricultural teachers in schools.

Speaking to the press in Kampala ahead of the World Food Day Awareness Week, the executive director of the Alliance Hon. Victoria Ssekitoleko notes that they are proud that government has already directed schools to have school gardens and farm camp in the education policy but they are worried that the agriculture teachers are not included.

She says that once the agricultural teachers are included this will help students to study practical farming methods.

Ssekitoleko also wants government to increase the budget for the Ministry of Education to ensure that they employ agriculture teachers at various levels to help the future generation.

Meanwhile the agricultural lecturer from Kyambogo university Dr. Robert Mulebere says that the world food day celebrations will be held on 16th this month in Hoima district under the theme health diets for zero hunger.

There will be a world food awareness week starting next Monday to various schools to ensure that students have knowledge about agriculture.
